Voices - Newman Voices provides a vibrant atmosphere at the 9:00 pm Sunday Mass
when NIU is in Fall or Spring session. College students, singers, and instrumentalists are
welcome to join. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 7:00 - 8:20 pm. +Newman Choir - From the beginning vocalist to the experienced cantor, all are welcome to come sing! The Newman Choir leads the sung prayer at the 8:00 am and 10:15 am Sunday Masses and rehearses on Tuesdays and Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 8:20 pm. as well as 30 minutes prior to Mass. Many styles of music are sung by this group: four-part a Capella, classical, folk, and gospel, among others. Newman Choir also takes part in holiday and summer Masses. +Newman Sound -
Newman Sound (grades
6-12) leads music once every month at the 4:30 Mass on Saturday. Members of
this teen choir are welcome to join Newman Sound on all other weekends.
Teens join the adult rehearsals held on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings from
7:00-8:20 PM. +A Cappella Choir - leads music for various Masses and celebrations.
Vocalists in this choir will need to have experience in part-singing. Rehearsals
are Monday evenings from 6:00-7:30 PM. +Instrumentalists are welcome to participate in any of the above ensembles (except a Capella choir) and are asked to attend the relevant rehearsals. +Cantors lead music for all Masses, but are solely responsible for leading music at Saturday’s 4:30 PM Mass as well as Sunday’s noon Mass.
